Custom Graft Workflow
Custom graft orders are scheduled against the winter grafting window at our Woodburn farm. The four-step workflow below lets florists, designers, and curators plan weddings and installs around a real production calendar — not a best-guess estimate.
Step One
We confirm named cultivar availability from our 312-cultivar production library — or source certified budwood from the Heritage Rose Foundation network for requests outside our standard list. Source documentation accompanies every order.
Week 1
Step Two
Our nine-person master grafter team (averaging 22 years of experience each) T-buddes scion wood onto Dr. Huey rootstock under glass. Each graft is logged by grafter, date, and lot number for full traceability.
Weeks 2–4
Step Three
Grafted stock is lined out in our Willamette Valley fields for a full growing season. Plants are irrigated, fed, and inspected monthly. Weak grafts are culled; the survivors establish the root system that drives first-year performance.
Weeks 5–10
Step Four
Stock is lifted in late autumn, graded, and held in cold storage. Dormant-root plants ship between November and early March, timed to your planting window. Each order ships with planting instructions and our 2-year bloom-or-replace guarantee.
Weeks 11–12
Custom graft orders placed after March 15 are scheduled into the following winter's grafting window. Florists planning summer weddings should reserve stems 16 weeks in advance; landscape jobs requiring 100+ plants should book a year ahead.
How the Trade Program Works
The trade program is structured around four operational rails. Cut-stem orders for florists begin at 10 stems per cultivar and scale to 250 stems per cultivar per week during the June–October harvest. Bunch sizing follows industry convention: 10-stem bunches for wholesale, 25-stem half boxes for event work, and 50-stem full boxes for install-scale jobs. Stems are cut at the optimal stage for the named cultivar — tight bud for 'Carding Mill', open quarter for 'Munstead Wood' — and conditioned in cool water for 12 hours before dispatch.
Landscape and design studios operate on a separate rail. Bareroot orders begin at a 25-plant minimum and contract growing is available for jobs requiring 100 or more plants of a single cultivar. Contract orders reserve scion wood and field space at the time of quote acceptance, which protects source trueness through to delivery. We hold the original mother block for two years after dispatch so replacements for plant loss in later phases draw from the same genetic material.
Botanical garden and estate curators receive accession-grade documentation as standard: cultivar name, synonymy, year of introduction, breeder where known, and Hisako lot number. We do not certify plants under any third-party organic program — we follow sustainable practice but are not USDA certified organic — and we do not claim phytosanitary clearance for shipments outside the U.S. and Canada. For event florists, we coordinate delivery to a single venue address within a four-hour window of your requested arrival time, at no additional handling fee on orders over $500.
Trade pricing is set against cultivar, volume, and seasonality, and is quoted per request rather than published. Quotes are valid for 30 days; production slots are reserved on a signed quote and a 50% deposit. Balance is due seven days before dispatch. We do not offer net-30 terms to new accounts; standing terms are available after two completed order cycles. If a requested cultivar fails in production or is unavailable in the requested week, we notify the buyer before substitution. We never substitute silently. Buyers may opt into a pre-approved substitution list at the time of quote, or approve substitutes per order. Substitution notes appear on the packing list and invoice.
Yes. We coordinate delivery to a single venue address within a four-hour window of your requested arrival time, at no additional handling fee on orders over $500. For orders under $500, a $45 venue handling fee applies. We ship to all 50 U.S. states and 11 Canadian provinces; we do not ship internationally.
New trade accounts operate on a 50% deposit at quote acceptance, with the balance due seven days before dispatch. Standing net-30 terms are available after two completed order cycles. We accept ACH, wire, and major credit cards. Quotes are valid for 30 days from issue.
